We cordially invite you to the Coronation Ceremony, which will be held in September, from the 1st through the 3rd, and which will magnificently complete the summer tourism season in Bratislava. This ceremony will recall Bratislava’s fourth coronation; this time Matthew II von Habsburg, crowned in 1608. You will experience a genuine coronation atmosphere with a rich program in the streets of our City.
On September 1st, 2006, the musical tones of the Coronation Mass by W. A. Mozart will sound in St. Martin’s Coronation Cathedral, performed by the Orchestra of the Slovak National Theatre.

On September 2nd and 3rd, 2006, Bratislava will be shaded by the Turkish crescent moon. A theatre performance with 200 actors on Castle Hill will recreate the era from the turn of the 16th into the 17th century.

On September 3rd, 2006, more than 400 guests will see an authentic ceremony of the coronation of the Hungarian King. The King will be anointed with holy oil and will accept coronation insignia from the hands of the Ostrihom Archbishop, in accordance with the contemporary tradition.

During these days oxen will be roasted, wine will flow from a fountain, and royal beer served from barrels in the streets of the City. Contemporary Middle Age craftsmen, musicians, jugglers and fakirs will present their skills. The King himself will be acclaimed by delegates from almost all Slovak royal cities. You will be able to taste the best Slovak wines in the fair.
